Growing up, I was a young girl full of curiosity and dreams, but when it came to beauty, I often felt like I was on a never-ending quest. I was eager to explore my style and discover what made me feel beautiful, but the world around me didn’t quite reflect who I was. I flipped through fashion magazines with excitement, only to find that the images, tips, and products didn’t speak to me. They celebrated a beauty ideal that felt far removed from my reality, leaving me to navigate my journey with few role models to guide me.
With only an older brother by my side, finding my own sense of style was a challenge. The beauty icons I saw didn’t look like me, and the advice I read didn’t cater to my needs. But I didn’t let that stop me. I turned to my local Black hair shop—a small but significant oasis that provided the essentials for my hair and skin. Even though it faithfully stocked the products I needed, it was clear that something was missing. The shop was stuck in a time warp, and the sales assistants, while well-meaning, couldn’t offer the advice and inspiration I craved.
Fast forward to today, and I’m thrilled to see how far we’ve come. The beauty landscape has blossomed with a vibrant array of Black beauty brands, an endless selection of makeup shades, and a powerful community of Black beauty influencers who are setting new standards. There’s more choice, more representation, and more inspiration than ever before. But even with all this progress, I still found myself searching for one platform that could bring it all together—a place that offers everything I need to know about Black beauty, along with expert advice and the latest trends that resonate with me.
That’s why I created Legatia: The Beauty Edit. It’s the big sister I never had, a place where Black beauty is celebrated in all its forms. Here, we discuss the latest trends, showcase the hottest brands, and explore what’s best for Black hair and skin. We know that beauty isn’t one-size-fits-all, and we’re dedicated to curating content that speaks to the unique needs and desires of our community.
At Legatia: The Beauty Edit, we understand that representation matters. We know what it feels like to search for beauty tips and products that truly work for you, and we’re here to make that search easier. Our mission is to empower women of color to embrace their beauty with confidence and pride. Whether you’re looking for the perfect foundation shade, the latest in Afro hair care, or simply some inspiration from women who look like you, we’ve got you covered.
We’re not just another beauty blog—we’re a movement, a community, and a celebration of Black beauty. We believe that every woman deserves to see herself reflected in the world of beauty, and we’re committed to shining a light on the products, services, tips, and tricks that make that possible. Join us at Legatia: The Beauty Edit, and let’s redefine beauty together.
